Real Wedding: Kerry and Andy's Modern-Vintage Cleveland Wedding

Today we're sharing the real wedding of our Something White Assistant, Kerry, on her five-year wedding anniversary!

From the bride, Kerry:

Our theme was “vintage-country/modern-industrial” with a bit of a Muppets-inspired twist. Say what? Well, the most important thing to us was to have a wedding that felt like who we are as individuals and who we are as a couple, with a wedding that reflected our lives together in Cleveland. We figured Andy is a city boy and his style is a little modern/industrial while Kerry is a country girl who loves anything '60s vintage -- so let’s combine those! We sourced as many vendors as possible from within our Ohio City neighborhood (where we lived at the time). Even the teal-and-grey color palette was inspired by Lake Erie. We also wanted to incorporate a musical theme because Andy is a drummer, which we did with our band poster-inspired invitations and some instruments as decor. We also had the lyrics to the song "Life's a Happy Song" from The Muppets movie read during the ceremony and featured on our escort cards.

Our amazing wedding planner, Valarie Kirkbride Falvey, managed to take all our crazy ideas, reign us in, and make it all work together seamlessly. She's a miracle worker! We also had help from some super talented friends, like our friend Josh who played an awesome rendition of "Here Comes the Bride" on electric guitar when I walked down the aisle, our friend Amanda who did all the girls' makeup, our friend Shannon who created all our stationery, and our friend Denny who ran karaoke during the reception -- yes, karaoke instead of a DJ or a band (risky, but it turned out so fun!).

We made most of the decor ourselves — tons of burlap bunting, tons of signs, tons of painting the sticks for the programs. Andy even made two flavors of boozy ice cream that we used for a “first scoop” instead of a cake. The antique wood ladders that we used for our ceremony altar were original to our house, and we used our own bikes with baskets for the cards. It was great to be able to incorporate so many personal things into the wedding, and it all turned out perfectly!
